This may be my favorite Scott Schumann Satorialist photo of Luciano Barbera. I take a copy of this in to my tailor when I get my pants hemmed. As Luciano says,”Italians wear pants too short and Americans too long. I like a mid-Atlantic length”
I couldn’t agree more.
I just wanted to thank Isaiah for allowing me to be a part of his interview series.
Samuel Umachi is an Associate at a management consulting firm in Chicago. His blog, www.ordinaryglory.com, is an aspirational compilation of photos and writings that inform his perspective on personal style.
What’s your definition of Style?
Being able to dress appropriately for where you’re at in your life. There are no rules, just aspirations.
What inspired your Style?
I liked what dressing like an adult did for how people perceived me as a person, and for my job prospects leaving Grad school.
The do’s and don’t’s of Style/Fashion?
I personally don’t have a list. Your style/fashion can take you places your character can’t keep you. Don’t let your closet be the only thing you develop and curate.
How does your style of dress reflect who you are to people?
My style of dress is consistent and mature, l think.
What’s one thing you would take out of Fashion World and one thing you would add?
I would pay to kill off fashion shows that feature clothes that no one anywhere, will ever wear. What’s the point? I would add more occupational attire diversity. Business men and college preppies aren’t the only ones who care about how they dress.
Tips for up and coming Fashion/Style bloggers
I don’t really consider myself a blogger. Bloggers write to inform. Bloggers have a point of view that’s consistent and influences everything they write or post. The best bloggers write well and are uncompromising. I personally love the sites that tote a little snark.
What’s going to be big this fall season?
I have no clue. Spotting fashion trends has NEVER been a gift of mine. I am, however, partial to the color burgundy for this time of year. Ever since Derek from DieWorkwear mentioned it awhile back, I’ve made some dope purchases with this in mind.
What’s your dream job?
I really want to be an Image Consultant for small, service-oriented businesses. I kind of already do this, just without the pay. I’ve never wanted to work in fashion.
All time favorite item clothing or shoe?
My all-time favorite article of clothing is my Kangol Heritage Tweed Drivers cap. I wear it at least 9 months a year. The single best investment in headwear I have ever made.
Who’s your style icon and why?
My role model when I child was always my dad. I always wanted to dress like him. He’s no longer with us, and I still do.
